Right to die with dignity has been recognised as a fundamental right by the, the Supreme Court of India in a landmark ruling legalising passive euthanasia. A Constitution bench comprising Chief Justice of India Dipak Kumar Misra, Justice AK Sikri, Justice AM Khanwilkar, Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Ashok Bhushan, passed the verdict on the plea to allow “living will” authorising the withdrawal of all life support systems if, the physicians attending the patient opine that the patient has reached an irreversible stage of terminal illness or a permanently vegetative state.
সম্মানের সাথে মৃত্যুর অধিকার
ভারতের সুপ্রীম কোর্টের একটি মাইলফলক রুলিং এ সম্মানের সাথে মৃত্যু অধিকার মৌলিক অধিকার হিসেবে  স্বীকৃতি পেয়েছে যা পরোক্ষভাবে যন্ত্রনাবীহীন মৃত্যুকে বৈধতা দেয়। ভারতের প্রধান বিচারপতি দীপক কুমার মিশ্র, বিচারপতি এ কে সিকরি ও বিচারপতি এম খান উইলকারের সমন্বয়য়ে গঠিত  সাংবিধানিক বেঞ্চ আবেদনের পক্ষে রায় প্রদান করে যা জীবিত অবস্থায় করা উইল্ কে অনুমোদন করে লাইফ সাপোর্ট সিস্টেম প্রত্যাহারের যদি রোগীর দায়িত্বে নিয়োজিত চিকিতসকগণ মতামত দেন যে, রোগীটি দুরারোগ্য ব্যাধির অপরিবর্তনীয় পর্যায়ে পৌঁছে গিয়েছে বা চিরকালের জন্য চেতনাহীন অবস্থায় আছে।

Genocide against Rohingyas

Daily Star 11-03-18 We agree with the recent comments by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights that the ongoing atrocities on the Rohingya community in Myanmar should be referred to the International Criminal Court for prosecution. He also stated that there is strong suspicion that what is happening in Myanmar might amount to “acts of genocide” against the minority community.  It should be beyond doubt now that since August, the Myanmar authorities have been engaged in ethnic cleansing of its Rohingya population, driving almost 700,000 Rohingyas into Bangladesh. Rehabilitate the homeless quickly

14/03/18: Editorial he fire that engulfed Mirpur slum on March 12 is said to have gutted 1,000 shanties leaving thousands with nothing but the clothes on their backs. These are people from the lowest income groups who lost all their meaningful possessions and literally have no place to go. We are glad to learn that there were no casualties reported beyond the primary treatment for burns but that is hardly any consolation to the local residents who called the slum their home.  The charred remains of homesteads are where thousands of people are milling about selling what little they have been able to retrieve to pay for food, but that can hardly be a solution. Although the fire brigade responded timely, there is little the service could do given the narrow lanes in slums like this. Last year, we reported on the blaze at Kalyanpur slum and how difficult it was for firefighters to get to the source of the blaze due to navigability problems in slums in general.
